While living in Berkeley enrolled at the California College of Arts & Crafts in 1972, Debra Shepard pondered the idea of creating an altogether different style of earring. “I was convinced earrings could be designed without post backings in a way that would make them lighter and more comfortable,” Debra said. “But I also wanted earrings that would inspire a sense of playfulness and fun.” Debra attached a thin strand of Sterling Silver chain to the end of an earring post. She threaded the post and chain through three piercings in her right ear. She was delighted with the results. Her earrings were so comfortable, they felt almost weightless. Not surprisingly, Debra realized she might be on to something.

 

Hollywood has discovered Debra’s earrings too, which have become a favorite with actresses, musicians, and other leading women of the world. Debra has been invited to design jewelry for events including Fashion Rocks, The Grammy’s, The MTV Movie Awards, Jingle Ball, and the Independent Spirit Film Awards to name only a few.
